We can fix floppy earlobes
I can help Fix Floppy Stretched Earlobes! Do you have torn earlobes and gauge holes that need fixed? I can help! Even earlobes cannot escape the aging process. Plastic Surgeon Marc T. Taylor, M.D. finds that patients visiting his Timeless You of San Antonio practice are unaware that earlobe reduction is an option. Dr. Taylor states, “Drooping earlobes change the whole face, especially when the piercing hole is almost at the bottom of the lobe. Patients are frequently surprised that there definitely is a pretty simple way of reducing earlobes surgically.” “Earlobe-plasty” (earlobe reduction or earlobe repair), which was usually done in conjunction with a facelift, is now gaining popularity as a stand-alone procedure. With few exceptions “detached” lobes can be “attached,” prominent lobes can be made smaller, and elongated lobes can be shortened. As a result the earlobes are more proportionate to the size of the ear and shape of the face. “It’s a subtle but definite enhancement in appearance and can give a more youthful look to the the face when dangling earlobes are corrected,” states Dr. Taylor. Erase Years in Under an Hour Earlobe-plasty or reduction is an office procedure done under local anesthetic. It takes less than an hour and there are no bandages. The techniques used will depend upon your specific anatomy. If there is simply extra earlobe tissue, an incision is made along the bottom edge of the earlobe. That soft tissue is removed and repaired. If the lobe is very wide or the hole is stretched a great deal, a different incision might have to be used. Dr. Taylor states, “I will doing a face lift procedure I also repaired a stretched out, torn, and hanging earlobe on one of my patients. She had torn the earlobe over 30 years ago and had no idea they could be repaired. She was as happy with the earlobe repair as she was with the results of her face lift!” Gauge closure of all sizes can also be done.  Re-piercing of the earlobe can be done approximately 6 weeks post-op. Since all procedures are done in office, on the same day as the consult, under local anesthesia we can offer you an exceptional price.  Call for details-210-305-5797

What is a rhinoplasty?

Excerpts from the ASPS website and Marc Taylor, M.D.

Rhinoplasty enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose. It can also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose.

Rhinoplasty surgery can change:
  • Nose size in relation to facial balance
  • Nose width at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils
  • Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
  • Nasal tip that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned or hooked
  • Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry
If you desire a more symmetrical nose, keep in mind that everyone’s face is asymmetric to some degree. Results may not be completely symmetric, although the goal is to create facial balance and correct proportion. Rhinoplasty to correct a deviated septum Nose surgery that’s done to improve an obstructed airway requires careful evaluation of the nasal structure as it relates to airflow and breathing. Correction of a deviated septum, one of the most common causes of breathing impairment, is achieved by adjusting the nasal structure to produce better alignment. Good candidates for a rhinoplasty are:
  • Your facial growth is complete
  • You are physically healthy
  • You don’t smoke
  • You have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance
Rhinoplasty Post Op Care During your rhinoplasty recovery, a splint and/or packing will likely be placed inside your nose and a splint or bandages placed on the outside to support and protect the new structures during initial healing. While initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine. During this time you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it refines to a more permanent outcome. Swelling may come and go and worsen in the morning during the first year following your rhinoplasty surgery. You will be given specific instructions that may include:
  • How to care for the surgical site
  • Medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection
  • Specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health
  • When to follow up with your plastic surgeon.
Be sure to ask Dr. Taylor  specific questions about what you can expect during your individual recovery period:
  • Where will I be taken after my surgery is complete?
  • What medication will I be given or prescribed after surgery?
  • Will I have dressings/bandages after surgery?
  • When will they be removed?
  • Are stitches removed? When?
  • When can I resume normal activity and exercise?
  • When do I return for follow-up care?
The results of rhinoplasty surgery will be long-lasting. While initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine. During this time you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it refines to a more permanent outcome. As your body ages, it is natural to have some gradual changes to your face including your nose. But most of your improvement should be relatively permanent. A healthy lifestyle and life-long sun protection will help extend the results of your new appearance.   The decision to have plastic surgery is extremely personal. You will have to decide if the benefits will achieve your goals and if the risks and potential complications of rhinoplasty are acceptable. Dr. Taylor and his staff will explain in detail the risks associated with surgery. You will be asked to sign consent forms to ensure that you fully understand the procedure and any risks or potential complications. Rhinoplasty surgery risks include:
  • Anesthesia risks
  • Bleeding (hematoma)
  • Infection
  • Poor wound healing or scarring
  • Change in skin sensation (numbness or pain)
  • Nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum) is rare. Additional surgical treatment may be necessary to repair the septum but it may be impossible to correct this complication
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Unsatisfactory nasal appearance
  • Skin discoloration and swelling
  • Possibility of revisional surgery
These risks and others will be fully discussed prior to your consent. It is important that you address all your questions directly with your plastic surgeon. The average cost of rhinoplasty is $4,694, according to 2014 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. What will it cost Rhinoplasty surgery costs can vary widely. The average fee referenced above does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses.

When choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area for a rhinoplasty procedure, remember that the surgeon’s experience and your comfort with him or her are just as important as the final cost of the surgery.

Marc Taylor Plastic Surgeon San Antonio, TXOnce you have made the decision to undergo facial plastic surgery, the first step in the process is to find a qualified plastic surgeon. In your search, you will find two types of “plastic surgeons” who specialize in this area. There are surgeons that are “board certified” by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and there are surgeons that are “board certified” by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Both types of “certification” can offer expertise in this type of surgery; the big question is which of them makes the best choice for you.

Which Plastic Surgeon Is Right for You

One of the most important things to remember in your search for the right plastic surgeon is that your board certified surgeon has the experience in performing your particular facial plastic surgery procedure. Multiple medical studies have shown that the number of times a surgeon has performed the procedure and the surgeon’s experience are the most important factors to consider. Experienced surgeons have fewer complications and the best surgical results. Although surgery is never perfect, a simple start to obtaining good results is to make sure your surgeon is board certified and has experience.

Using Your Eyes to Choose a Plastic Surgeon

Like many other things you choose based on what you see, your eyes will go a long way towards helping you find the right plastic surgeon. Ask each doctor you are considering to see a portfolio of their work that includes both before and after photographs of their patients. This will let you see the quality of their work and help you make your final decision.

Find Out if Dr. Taylor is the Right Plastic Surgeon for You

The term “minimally invasive face lift” does not have just one “definition,” because it refers to several types of surgical techniques used to deal with sagging skin and muscles of the face and neck. Some physicians use the term to refer to surgery that uses small incisions, long needles, and special types of suture to pull up the facial skin and muscles. This method can provide short-term benefit in certain individuals. Most often, Dr. Marc Taylor uses the term to describe how each patient‘s face lift is designed to be as “minimally invasive” as possible. When it comes to rejuvenating one or more areas of your face, a minimally invasive face lift procedure might very well be a way for you to obtain the results you desire.

A Shift Has Occurred

Over the last ten years, there has been a major shift in the field of face lift surgery. The shift has been towards performing a “minimally invasive” face lift procedure, while obtaining the same excellent results. This approach uses newer techniques in order to:
  1. Avoid all the problems associated with general anesthetics during a traditional face lift procedure.
  2. Decrease the long recovery times, the prolonged bruising and swelling, and the long visible scars associated with many of the older face lift methods.
Dr. Taylor is a surgeon that performs a “minimally invasive” face lift procedure by combining the best face lift surgical techniques with the newest, highly specialized surgical equipment. Every patient is different, so every procedure is designed to address the areas of concern in as “minimally invasive” a way as possible. When compared to the older, more invasive methods of the face lift procedure, using this “minimally invasive face lift” approach provides a shorter recovery time, less scarring, and more natural looking results that give a long lasting refreshed look to the face and neck.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Minimally Invasive Face lift?

If you are interested in finding out if you are a good candidate for a minimally invasive face lift procedure, we invite you to contact us at 210-305-5797. Call us to schedule your free consultation, and at that time Dr. Taylor will be glad to discuss the various options and surgical choices that are best for you.

Sclerotherapy has become the "go to" treatment for spider veins in the legs as it is a minimally invasive form of treatment. This procedure can also be used to help with a number of related symptoms, including burning, aching, swelling, and night cramps. Once the spider veins have been treated using this procedure, they will generally fade over the course of the next few weeks. However, it can take as long as two full months before you see the full results of the treatment. In certain instances, it can take several repeat treatments in order to achieve the best results.

What You Need to Know about Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy for spider veins is most commonly performed in Dr. Taylor's office, as it does not require the use of anesthesia and typically only takes anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes to complete, depending on the severity of your spider veins. During the process, you will need to lie on your back with your legs elevated slightly. Dr. Taylor will then inject a special medication into the veins using a very fine needle. You may experience a small amount of burning or stinging when the medicine is being injected. This medication is designed to irritate the lining of the vein. In turn, this causes the vein to swell closed, blocking the flow of blood and destroying the vessel. If the veins are particularly large, a compression/Ace wrap is applied that is worn for 1-5 days. Frequently, more than one treatment session is needed to eliminate all the veins, and the total number of sessions will vary based on the size and number of veins.

Chin augmentation using a person's natural fat is a relatively new procedure that involves removing fat from another area of their body and then injecting it into the area of their chin. No one likes a weak or small chin as this can be truly less than aesthetically appealing. Not only can a small chin make a person's face appear to be unbalanced, it can make their facial features appear to be much bigger than they really are. Despite being a relatively new procedure, this form of chin augmentation is rapidly gaining in popularity and is showing a lot of promise.

Who Opts for Chin Augmentation?

While you might think that only men worry about having a small or weak chin, this is really not the case. A growing number of women are also opting for this procedure, as anyone who feels they have a weak or small chin can benefit from this type of augmentation. The procedure begins by giving the patient either a general anesthesia or a local one based on their preferences and the surgeon's recommendations. Once the patient is sedated, the fat will be harvested from the appropriate donor site. The fat will then be processed on site to concentrate the fat cells and to remove extra oils and fluids. The fat is then injected directly into the chin and used to create the desired contour. After the chin augmentation has been completed, the patient will be allowed to rest for a little while before being sent home. The patient may have some mild swelling and pain for the first couple of days that can be relieved using an over the counter or oral prescription painkiller. The majority of swelling of the chin is gone within 5-7 days, but it can take between 2 to 3 weeks for all the swelling to subside. The harvest site usually has mild bruising and swelling that resoles within 7-10 days. This type of chin augmentation is considered permanent; however, it is possible for some of the fat to be reabsorbed into the body, requiring an additional fat augmentation at a later date.

Before face and neck lift Time can be hard on the skin and the soft tissues beneath it. As our skin loses elasticity, gravity has its way and the folds, lines, and sagging skin on the neck and chin can become unsightly and make us feel even older than we really are. A popular way to deal with the inevitable march of time is to visit a cosmetic surgeon and begin on the path to rejuvenating our skin and bring back the youthful look that keeps us looking and feeling years younger. Marc Taylor M.D. at Timeless You of San Antonio offers a neck lift procedure that offers tightening loose skin and muscles around the neck and removing excess skin.

What is Involved in a Neck Lift

Neck lifts, for tightening loose skin and muscles and removing excess fat in the neck, can be done in a variety of ways in order to meet your specific needs and concerns. Often times tightening loose skin is performed in combination with other procedures such as natural fat filler injections to restore facial volume, a full facelift, or eyelid surgery to achieve the overall results you are after. A neck lift is usually done under a mix of oral sedation and local anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure lasting about 2-2.5 hours. Some people only require a small incision in the crease under the chin, while others also need an additional incision in the skin creases in front of the ears and around the earlobes. The loose skin and muscles are tightened, and any excess fat and skin are removed through these incisions.

Recovering from Tightening Loose Skin with a Neck Lift

There will be some swelling and bruising in the areas of the procedure after tightening loose skin, which mostly resolves in 7 to 10 days. Special surgical dressings and compression garments have to be worn and are used to minimize swelling and bruising and to aid in healing. Because the bruising and swelling can never be predicted, planning to take 7 to 10 days off of work is usually best, and you will be asked to refrain from strenuous activity. Due to the medications that are given during the surgery, a driver to and from the facility is needed. It is also good to schedule someone to help you for the first couple of days, because to help keep swelling to a minimum, most surgeons have their patients sleep in a recliner or with extra pillows at a 45-degree angle and require the use of either ice packs or ice bags that need constant changing. If needed, most offices can help you find relatively inexpensive professional help, such as Visiting Angels.

Liposuction is a very popular form of fat removal surgery that has been in use since the 1980s and is usually very successful at removing excess fat. During this process, the doctor will use a hollow tube called a cannula to remove the excess fat from under your skin. The cannula is attached to a suction machine by a tube, and then it is inserted through small incisions made in your skin into the areas of excess fat. The cannula is moved through the fat, and the fat is then “liposuctioned” out. The net result is a slimmer more attractive shape to the area. Liposuction is particularly effective in areas such as the thighs, back, abdomen, neck, arms, and face. While it is one of the most effective forms of fat removal surgery, it does have a recovery time of one to six weeks, depending on the areas, and can be one of the most expensive methods of fat removal.

Laser Liposuction Fat Removal Surgery

There are many different “infrared,” laser, “radiofrequency,” and tissue freezing machines on the market that are all designed to “dissolve” small amounts of fat without having surgical liposuction with a cannula. These machines are applied to the skin surface above the fat, or they have special tiny cannulas that are passed through the fat tissues using tiny skin incisions. In this way the fat tissues are damaged by being lasered, heated, or frozen, and the body absorbs the fat over the next six to twelve weeks. Of course everyone would love a way to destroy unwanted excess fat without major surgery, and for certain individuals, these treatments work very well with good results. But, these forms of “non-invasive” treatment have limits. They cannot remove large amounts of fat, frequently require multiple treatments to an area, can take weeks to obtain results, and can be very expensive. Smart Lipo™ laser liposuction utilizes a low-energy laser fiber that is designed to liquefy and remove unwanted fat cells. When dealing with localized small areas of fat, this is the preferred fat removal option of Marc Taylor, M.D. at Timeless You of San Antonio. For instance, to dissolve small amounts of excess fat under the chin the Smart Lipo™ laser can be passed through the tissues using a local anesthetic. The fat then slowly absorbs with time. If larger amounts of fat are present, after using the Smart Lipo™ laser, Dr. Taylor will use a small cannula to suction out the fat. This procedure has another significant advantage over just having “traditional” liposuction fat removal surgery. The laser technology used for SmartLipo™ not only has the ability to dissolve the unwanted fat so that it can be suctioned out easier, but it also helps to stimulate the collagen in the overlying skin tissues in order to help to tighten skin and remove wrinkles. Also, due to the fact that laser liposuction of smaller areas is less invasive than traditional liposuction procedures, the recovery time is often much less. Most patients are able to resume normal activity within days after their procedure.

Injectable “fillers,” such as synthetic Juvederm or your own fat, can be used to plump the lips, fill in hollow areas of the face, augment the chin, soften fine lines and wrinkles, and even smooth and improve the appearance of facial scars. Dermal fillers can be a great option for those with these aesthetic issues, but do not need or do not want to undergo an invasive surgery or implant.

Dermal Fillers in San Antonio using the Fat Transfer Method

Many patients who come to Dr. Marc T. Taylor in search of fuller lips or improvement in other facial areas are willing to undergo injections to accomplish the desired results, but they do not want to have any type of foreign material injected into their body. Instead of an artificial filler or implant, Dr. Taylor prefers to take some of your body’s own natural fat, often from the area around your lower abdomen or thighs, using a “mini” liposuction technique. Once removed the fat cells are then processed and concentrated so they are ready to be injected back into your facial areas, chin, or lips as “dermal fillers.” The dermal fillers are done with a special syringe with a blunt needle in order to fill the areas as gently as possible to make sure the maximum amount of fat cells survive. The whole procedure is done using mild oral sedation and local anesthesia and is completed on an outpatient basis. Fat injections can also help to improve overall results when done with other procedures. For instance this is an ideal procedure to have done in combination with a face lift, eyelid surgery, or laser treatment.

Benefits and Risks of Dermal Fillers

One of the most important benefits of using fat as dermal fillers in San Antonio beyond a more aesthetically pleasing look is that there is no risk of an allergic reaction or infection of an implant in the future. This is due to the fact that your own body fat is being injected back into your body instead of some form of artificial material or dermal filler. There are a few days more of swelling and minor discomfort with the fat injections compared to the synthetic fillers, but once healed, the fat cells that survive are permanent, avoiding having to pay for synthetic filler injections every 6-12 months. The best way to learn if dermal fillers are right for you is to contact Dr. Marc T. Taylor and schedule your free consultation. Call 210-538-3540 to schedule your appointment today and start down the path to an all -new you!

About Neck and Face Lift Surgery

To ensure your complete safety and comfort both neck and face lift surgeries are performed using only mild oral sedation and a local anesthetic, which avoids all the problems with general anesthesia.
